The "Nationales d’Élevage" of sighthounds in France
What are the Nationales d’Élevage?
The Nationales d’Élevage (NE) are official events organized by breed clubs recognized by the Société Centrale Canine (SCC), dedicated to the evaluation and promotion of the morphological and functional standards of dogs.
For our Irish wolfhounds , the organization is handled by the RASSEMBLEMENT DES AMATEURS DE LÉVRIERS D'IRLANDE ET D'ÉCOSSE (RALIE)
It is the most important event of the year for each breed in France: a sort of “state exam” for breeders and enthusiasts.
Main objectives
Evaluate conformity to the breed standard. Select the best subjects for reproduction. Promote the serious work of responsible breeders. Allow the issuing of certificates of conformity (CCS) necessary for the approval of the title of French Champion.
How the event works
Registration and admission: Dogs must be registered in advance, often with a confirmed or in the process of being confirmed pedigree. Foreign dogs can also participate.
Morphological judging: Dogs are presented in front of specialist judges. Judges evaluate according to the FCI standard of the breed. A qualification is awarded (Excellent, Very Good, Good, etc.) and, in some cases, special titles (Best Male, Best Female, BIS. BEST HEAD).
Additional tests (optional): some Nationales include behavior tests, coursing or racing tests for sighthounds, or health tests (e.g. heart, eyes). This is used to evaluate character, health and functional aptitudes.
Convivial atmosphere: The event is also an opportunity for breeders, handlers, enthusiasts and families to meet. There are often stands, convivial moments, club lunches, and social activities.
