POMPADOUR 2025 – Over 600 Sighthounds Take the Stage for a Unique Weekend

Every year in September, for one special weekend, Pompadour – traditionally known as the City of the Horse – transforms into the City of Sighthounds. In an exceptional setting, more than 600 graceful and powerful canines gather to celebrate both beauty and performance.

In 2025, 471 sighthounds will take part in the dog show at the equestrian stadium, while another 152 will compete in the PVL (Lure Coursing) on the racecourse below the castle.

Breeders, enthusiasts, and the simply curious all come together to admire these remarkable animals – a breed group with over 5,000 years of history. Sighthounds are believed to be the first specialized dogs bred by humans, originally used for hunting due to their speed, stamina, and courage. Today, those same qualities are on full display in lure coursing, where spectators can witness their signature "flying gallop" – a moment when all four feet leave the ground mid-stride.

With their lean, muscular bodies and deep chests, they resemble big cats like cheetahs. Despite their athleticism, sighthounds are excellent companions: deeply loyal to their owners, though often aloof with strangers.
