Ho sempre considerato le passioni come grandi emozioni che possono cambiare e impattare le nostre vite, sentimenti che possono davvero prendere possesso della nostra esistenza, spingendoci verso luoghi meravigliosi. Posso dire che la mia passione per l'Irish Wolfhound ha letteralmente cambiato la mia vita, spesso in modo positivo, lasciando sempre un segno indelebile nel mio cuore!

Parlando di luoghi fantastici, voglio raccontarvi della meravigliosa esperienza che ho vissuto di recente in Canada. Per il secondo anno consecutivo ho avuto l'opportunità di partecipare a una Specialità all'estero, e per questo devo ringraziare la generosa ospitalità della mia cara amica Jocelyne Gagné. Il primo anno ho viaggiato con Marcello Poli e Larisa Blaghevicha, e insieme abbiamo avuto il privilegio di partecipare all'88° Specialità IWCA a Ginevra, negli Stati Uniti. Quest'anno, purtroppo i miei cari amici non hanno potuto lasciare l'Europa, così ho deciso di intraprendere questa nuova avventura da solo.

È stato un viaggio fantastico in Canada e mi è piaciuto molto partecipare  alla 47a National-Regional Ontario Specialty.

Anche in Canada, come negli USA l'anno prima, la Specialty si è svolta in più giorni, non solo durante il weekend come nelle esposizioni canine europee.

Ero già stato avvisato dalla mia amica Jocelyne delle alte temperature previste, ma non avrei mai potuto immaginare che avrebbe fatto così caldo! Così, abbiamo trascorso le giornate della Specialty sotto un cielo azzurro e un sole feroce, sono state davvero "giornate da cani". LOL

La prima attività era programmata per giovedì pomeriggio, 13 settembre. Questa era la corsa degli Irish Wolfhound in linea retta (LGRA). La gara si è tenuta a casa di Celeste Atkinson a Wellandport con un'atmosfera davvero amichevole. Il vincitore è stato il maschio Ch. KALKINNY DREAM OF STARKEEPER, CGN. Questo cane che ha ottenuto il punteggio più alto è di proprietà di Louise Bouchat Laird e Dominique Lalonde ed è stato allevato da Louise Bouchat Laird. Il giorno seguente, venerdì 14 settembre, sono iniziate le prime esposizioni legate alla Regional Specialty, a partire daGLI  Sweepstakes, una competizione riservata solo ai cani giovani. Il giudice viene scelto tra un gruppo di allevatori esperti, e quel giorno il giudice era la signora Tina Berry (Berrybriar USA).

Per Tina Berry i vincitori sono stati: femmine 3-6 mesi: SIONNA FROM STARSTONE maschi 6-9 mesi: CASTLEKEEP’S STEEL WILL, femmine: STARKEEPER AOIBHEANN AILIS maschi 9-12 mesi: LISMORE COSMO TOPPER femmine: LISMORE MARION KERBY maschi 12-15 mesi: CASTLEKEEP’S ENDEAVOUR, femmine: CASTLEKEEP’S PATIENCE maschi 15-18 mesi: LONNKYLE MIDNIGHT PROWLER, femmine: HOWLIN’S MB TIPITINA ROSE

Il migliore in Sweeps è stato CASTLEKEEP’S ENDEAVOUR, un maschio allevato da Donna Tomson, il migliore di sesso opposto  è stata  CASTLEKEEP’S PATIENCE allevato da Donna Tomson.

Nello stesso giorno, subito dopo lo Sweepstakes Show, è iniziata la prima delle due competizioni principali: Si trattava dell'Ontario Regional Specialty. A questo evento erano presenti un buon numero di cani provenienti da Canada e Stati Uniti, giudicati da. James G Phinizy (USA). È un giudice esperto della razza che in precedenza aveva giudicato wolfhound in eventi prestigiosi come Westminster, Albany, Louisville, ha anche giudicato diverse Specialità, IWANE in New England, The Irish Wolfhound Association of the Delaware Valley, Rocky Mountain Irish Wolfhound Association, The Western Washington Hound Association e Locust Grove.

Il giorno seguente è iniziata la National Specialty, di nuovo con gli Sweepstakes. Il migliore in Sweeps è stato LONNKYLE MIDNIGHT PROWLER, allevato da Lloyd J Simmons, il migliore in Opposite Sweeps è stato CASTLEKEEP'S PATIENCE allevato da Donna Tomson.

Nel pomeriggio, subito dopo lo Sweepstakes Show, è iniziata la prima parte della National Specialty. Il giudice era la Sig.ra Ursula (Timmy) Ralfe, dal Sud Africa, esperta giudice di wolfhound. Ha giudicato diverse specialità negli USA, in Germania, in Russia, in Irlanda e in Sud Africa.

Il premio di  Migliore di Razza è andato a LISMORE GRACIE ALLEN (Lismore Stoneybrook Macheath X Lismore Stoneybrook Nora) di proprietà e allevata da Stephen e Karen Le Van, LISMORE GRACIE ALLEN ha vinto anche il titolo di migliore dei vincitori, mentre il titolo di migliore di sesso  opposto è stato vinto da CARRICKANEENA DEARTHAIR allevata e di proprietà di Eileen M. e Eileen B. Flanagan; il miglior cucciolo di razza è stato STARKEEPER AOIBHEANN AILIS allevato e di proprietà di Jocelyne Gagné e Serena Ivanovskis; il cane selezionato è stato CH TIRNANOG HERE COMES THE JUDGE (Pitlochry's Talented Mr Ripley X Gch Pitlochry's Prada) allevato e di proprietà di Catherine Charles; la cagna selezionata è stata GCH OMARA AT WOLFHOLM O'TYRCONNELL (Gch Pitlochry's Joshua X Tyrconnell's Magenta Millifiori) di proprietà di Ewa K Boldok e Holly Cook, allevata dalla stessa Holly Cook, quella cagna ha ottenuto anche il titolo di miglior allevata canadese. Essere presenti a questa Speciale è stata un'esperienza unica per diversi motivi. Ho trascorso quattro giorni intensi e pieni di emozioni che rimarranno per sempre nel mio cuore.

Posso confermare che l'atmosfera in queste esposizioni è totalmente diversa da quella che viviamo in Europa. Per il secondo anno consecutivo la mia impressione è che allevatori e proprietari non cerchino solo conferme sulle qualità dei loro cani o gareggino per portare a casa un titolo, ma ci vadano per discutere e confrontarsi, a volte partecipano solo per divertimento e per condividere la loro passione per questa razza con colleghi e amici.

Congratulazioni al Club Canadese  per l'organizzazione perfetta. Ancora una volta, complimenti a tutti i partecipanti, ma soprattutto agli allevatori e ai proprietari che hanno ottenuto il titolo di best of breed durante le Specialità grazie alle loro bellissime cagne: CH STARKEEPER CALORIEN A DIAMOND vincitrice della Regional Specialty e LISMORE GRACIE ALLEN vincitrice  della National Specialty.

Durante l'ultimo giorno dello Show ho avuto l'opportunità di assistere all'interessantissima presentazione della Dott. ssa Allison Jones intitolata "Giant Breed Reproduction and Health". Ha risposto gentilmente alle mie domande e mi ha dato preziosi consigli per il futuro. È stato fantastico.

Quest'anno ho avuto anche l'opportunità di presentare diversi cani, principalmente per il team Starkeeper, tra cui il migliore dei vincitori del primo giorno, STARKEEPERS GUARDIAN OF GOTHAM, un giovane e splendido maschio nero che in questa occasione ha completato il suo campionato canadese, l'adorabile giovane STARKEEPER AOIBHEANN AILIS vincitrice  del titolo di MIGLIOR CUCCIOLO  alla National Specialty, il dolce veterano CH BLACKWING'S STARKEEPER TEGANN, vincitore del titolo di miglior veterano alla National Specialty, LEGACY'S STARKEEPER SILVERADO SPIRIT aka Texas, (che temperamento meraviglioso che ha! È adorabile!)... e molti altri...

Ho anche incontrato la progenie nata dall'unione del mio WILL SCARLET DEI MANGIALUPI e CASTLEKEEP'S STEEL MAGNOLIA, grazie a Donna Tomson, l'allevatrice. Sono molto orgoglioso di CASTLEKEEP'S SCARLET MAGNOLIA e CASTLEKEEP'S STEEL WILL, sono cresciuti magnificamente. Brava Donna! Grazie a lei ho avuto anche la possibilità di mostrare Will durante la Specialità. Che emozione!

Infine vorrei ringraziare la mia cara Jocelyne per la meravigliosa opportunità che mi ha dato e non dimentico di ringraziare tutte le persone presenti agli spettacoli, la cui gentilezza ha reso questo viaggio indimenticabile.

I’ve always considered passions as great emotions that can change and impact our lives, feelings that can truly take possession of our existence, pushing us towards wonderful places.  I can say that my passion for the Irish wolfhound has literally changed my life, often in a positive way, always leaving an indelible mark in my heart!

Speaking about fantastic places, I want to tell you about the wonderful experience that I recently had in  Canada.  For the second consecutive year I had the opportunity to attend a Specialty overseas, and for that I have to thank the generous hospitality of my dear friend Jocelyne Gagné.

The first year I travelled with Marcello Poli and Larisa Blaghevicha, and together we had the privilege to attend the 88th IWCA Specialty in Geneva, USA. This year, unfortunately my dear friends could not leave  Europe, so I decided to undertake this new adventure alone. 

It was a fantastic trip to Canada and I enjoyed being present at the 47th National-Regional Ontario Specialty.

Even in Canada, like in the USA the year before, the Specialty took place over several days, not just during the weekend as in European Dog Shows.

I was already alerted by my friend Jocelyne about the forecasted high temperatures, but I could never imagine it would be so hot!  So, we spent the days of the Specialty under a blue sky and a ferocious sun, they were really “dog days”.   

The first activity was scheduled on Thursday afternoon, September 13. This was the racing of the Irish Wolfhounds in a straight line (LGRA). The race was held at the home of  Celeste Atkinsonin Wellandport with a truly friendly atmosphere.  The winner was the male  Ch. KALKINNY DREAM OF STARKEEPER, CGN. This dog who got the highest score is owned by Louise Bouchat Laird and Dominique Lalonde and he was bred by Louise Bouchat Laird.

The following day, Friday 14 September, the first exhibitions related to the Regional Specialty began, starting with the Sweepstakes, a competition reserved only for young dogs.

The judge is chosen from a group of experienced breeders, and on that day the judge  was Mrs Tina Berry (Berrybriar USA) .

For Tina Berry the winners were:  3-6 months females: SIONNA FROM STARSTONE

6-9 months  males: CASTLEKEEP’S STEEL WILL, females: STARKEEPER AOIBHEANN AILIS

9-12 months males: LISMORE COSMO TOPPER  females:  LISMORE MARION KERBY

12-15 months males: CASTLEKEEP’S ENDEAVOUR, females: CASTLEKEEP’S PATIENCE

15-18 months malesi: LONNKYLE MIDNIGHT PROWLER , females: HOWLIN’S MB TIPITINA ROSE

Best In Sweeps was CASTLEKEEP’S ENDEAVOUR, a male bred by Donna Tomson, Best Of Opposite In Sweeps was CASTLEKEEP’S PATIENCE  bred by  Donna Tomson. 

On the same day, immediately after the Sweepstakes Show, the first of the two main competitions started:

It was the Ontario Regional Specialty. At this event, there were a good number of dogs from Canada and the United States,  judged by the  Hon James G Phinizy (USA). He is an expert judge of the breed who had previously judged wolfhounds  in prestigious events like Westminster, Albany, Louisville, he also judged several Specialties, IWANE in New England, The Irish Wolfhound Association of the Delaware Valley, Rocky Mountain Irish Wolfhound Association, The Western Washington Hound Association and  Locust Grove.

The following day the National Specialty began, again starting with the Sweepstakes. This time the judge was Mrs Kathie Upton (Blackwing Canada) and the winners were:

In the afternoon, immediately after the Sweepstakes Show, the first part of the National Specialty began. The judge was Mrs. Ursula (Timmy) Ralfe, from South Africa who is an expert judge of wolfhounds. She has  judged several specialties in USA, Germany, Russia, Ireland and South Africa.

To be present at this Specialty was a unique experience for several reasons. I had four intense days full of emotions that will remain forever in my heart.

I can confirm that the atmosphere in these shows is totally different from what we experience in Europe.

For the second consecutive year my impression is that breeders and owners do not seek only confirmation about the qualities of their dogs or compete to bring home a title, but  they go there to  discuss and  to exchange views, sometimes they participate just for fun and to share their passion for this breed with colleagues and friends.

Congratulations to the IWCC for the perfect organization.  Once again, well done to all the participants, but above all to the breeders and owners who  obtained the title of  best of breed  during the Specialties thanks to their beautiful bitches: CH STARKEEPER CALORIEN A DIAMOND winner of the Regional Specialty and LISMORE GRACIE ALLEN winner of the National Specialty.

During the last day of the Show I had the opportunity to attend the very interesting presentation by Dr. Allison Jones  called “Giant Breed Reproduction and Health “. She kindly answered to my questions and she gave me valuable tips for the future. It was great. 

This year I also had the opportunity to present  several dogs, mainly for the Starkeeper team, including the best of winners on the first day, STARKEEPERS GUARDIAN OF GOTHAM,  a young  gorgeous black male who on this occasion completed his Canadian championship, the lovely youngster STARKEEPER AOIBHEANN AILIS winner of the BEST PUPPY IN BREED title at the National Specialty, the sweet veteran CH BLACKWING'S STARKEEPER TEGANN, winner of the best veteran title at the National Specialty, LEGACY’S STARKEEPER SILVERADO SPIRIT aka Texas, (what a wonderful temperament he has! He is adorable!)... and many others...

I also met the progeny born from the union of my WILL SCARLET DEI MANGIALUPI and CASTLEKEEP'S STEEL MAGNOLIA, thanks to Donna Tomson, the  breeder. I'm very proud of  CASTLEKEEP'S SCARLET MAGNOLIA  and CASTLEKEEP'S STEEL WILL, they have grown beautifully. Well done Donna! Thanks to her, I also had the chance to show Will during the Specialty. What a thrill!

In the end I would like to thank my dear Jocelyne for the wonderful opportunity she gave me and I should not forget to thank all the people present at the shows, whose kindness made this trip unforgettable.
